Sign the public lands letter before September 26

Why this Matters

The Siuslaw National Forest is public land. Over 630,000 acres of it, and one of only two national forests in the lower 48 states with oceanfront. Cape Perpetua, Cascade Head, Drift Creek, the Oregon Dunes: all of it is held in common, which is the only reason any of us get to walk it.

Save Public Lands Day is a national campaign asking a million people to sign one letter with three demands. No more public land sell-offs. No giveaways of shared resources to corporations and billionaires. No backroom deals in place of public comment. The signatures get delivered to Washington DC and to statehouses, and the campaign wants to reach a million names before National Public Lands Day on September 26, 2026.

The campaign is stewarded by Duct Tape Then Beer, with The Wilderness Society, Outdoor Alliance, The Conservation Alliance, MeatEater, and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers as founding partners. Outdoor Alliance hosts the form, and signing takes your name, email address, and zip code.

One more thing, said plainly. Signing a letter is not the same as filing a comment in a federal rulemaking. Agencies only have to respond to comments filed in the docket. If you have not commented on the Roadless Rule yet, that window closes September 21 and it carries more weight than any signature. Do both.

Steps to Take

Step 1

Add your name through the Save Public Lands letter form. It asks for your name, email address, and zip code, and takes under a minute.

Step 2

Comment on the Roadless Rule as well. That is the ask with a legal deadline attached. ECC's Roadless Rule action carries the sample comments and the background, and the Regulations.gov comment form takes your comment directly. Comments close September 21.

Step 3

Ask five people to sign. A million names happens on neighbors forwarding a link, not on advertising. A message you can copy and send comes with this action.

Step 4

Put September 26 on the calendar. Gatherings and days of action are being organized around the country for National Public Lands Day, and the campaign posts them to its Instagram.

Step 5

Spend part of that day on public land. The Siuslaw National Forest takes volunteers year round, and the forest that needs the hands is the one out your window.
