Write to Congress about the Roadless Rule, five minutes total

Why this Matters

Filing a comment fights this particular rescission. Two other things happening in Congress could make roadless protection permanent, or undo it for good, and both are worth five minutes.

Rep. Andrea Salinas' Roadless Area Conservation Act (H.R. 3930) would write the Roadless Rule into law so no future administration could undo it by rule alone. Every Oregon Democrat in Congress has co-sponsored it, including both senators, except one: Rep. Val Hoyle of Oregon's 4th District, which covers this stretch of coast. Checked on August 19, 2026, she still had not.

Meanwhile the Senate's Wildfire Prevention Act (S. 140) carries an amendment from Sen. Mike Lee that would repeal the Roadless Rule permanently. It was ordered reported out of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee on June 10, 2026, and is awaiting floor action. Your senators should hear that you oppose it.

Neither of these has a hard deadline the way the docket comments do. That makes this a good one to save for after September 21 and 23 if today is already full.

Steps to Take

Step 1

Ask Rep. Val Hoyle to co-sponsor the Roadless Area Conservation Act. Send your message through the Cascadia Wildlands action form. H.R. 3930 would give roadless protection the durability of law rather than a rule the next administration can rewrite.

Step 2

Tell your senators to strip the Mike Lee amendment out of S. 140. The Wildfire Prevention Act is otherwise about wildfire funding; the amendment riding on it would repeal the Roadless Rule outright. Send a message through the WildEarth Guardians form.

Step 3

Make it personal. Open the Outdoor Alliance map of Oregon's roadless areas, find a place you have hiked, fished, or camped, and name it in your message. A note about a real trail carries more weight than a form letter.

Step 4

Pass this along. If you already filed a docket comment on the Roadless Rule or signed the petitions, this is the third leg of the same fight, and unlike the other two it does not go away on September 21.

I am writing to ask you to oppose the Mike Lee amendment to S. 140, the Wildfire Prevention Act, which would repeal the 2001 Roadless Rule. Wildfire funding and roadless protection are two different questions, and this amendment answers the second one by attaching it to the first. The Roadless Rule protects nearly two million acres of Oregon's public forests, including roadless country in the Siuslaw National Forest on the coast. Please work to remove this rider and support wildfire funding on its own merits. Thank you.
