October 2026 Gathering – Mixed Media Montage

October 8 @ 5:00 pm 8:00 pm PDT

Finished mixed media montage keepsakes made from vintage photographs, matchboxes, a dog collar, dried flowers, and found objects, arranged on a cream cloth among autumn leaves.

Registration is required and closes October 3rd @ 11:59pm. We suggest a donation of $10 or more to help cover materials, which you can add at registration or by check made out to Coast Range Association, our fiscal sponsor. No one is turned away.

October is the season for remembering, and this month Liz Fox shows us how to hold onto a little of it. We are making mixed media montages, small assembled keepsakes built from old photographs, found objects, and bits of ephemera that mean something to you.

Think of it as a little shrine you can hold in your hand. A vintage matchbox becomes a frame. A tin holds a face. A line of typewritten text names the person, the place, or the year. You layer photos, paper, and small objects, along with whatever you carried in with you, until the piece says what you wanted it to say.

These montages look lovely on a shelf, a windowsill, or a mantel, and they make a heartfelt gift. Honor someone you want to remember, or make one just for the pleasure of the making.

We will be at it from 5 to 8 pm. A good montage takes a little time to assemble, so give yourself the evening and settle in.

What to bring

  • Photos you do not mind cutting up. Copies of old family pictures work beautifully, so print a few extras and bring more than you think you need.
  • Any small pieces that belong with them. A ticket stub, a pressed flower, a scrap of a letter, a button, a bead, a little keepsake.
  • A base, if you already have one in mind. A special frame, a pet collar, a small wooden box, an old tin. Bring it and we will build around it.

What we provide

Collage materials, tools, and a selection of matchboxes, tins, and other small items to embellish with. We will also have a typewriter out for adding text to your piece, so you can title it, date it, or set down a few words that belong with it.
