The Emerald Curtain Collective is a grassroots organization on the Oregon Coast and a fiscally sponsored project of the Coast Range Association. This page explains what we collect when you use our website or our mobile app, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

We have tried to write this in plain language. If something here is unclear, ask us through our contact form and we will explain it.

The short version

We do not track you around the internet. There is no Google Analytics on this site, no advertising pixels, and no third-party trackers following you from page to page. We do not sell your information, and we never will.

What we do collect is what you hand us on purpose: your name and email when you write to us or sign up for something, and the details needed to sell you a ticket or hold you a seat.

What we collect on the website

When you write to us

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, and message, and lets you add a phone number and attach files. That goes to our inbox. There is a checkbox on the form to join our newsletter, and we only add you if you tick it.

When you join the newsletter

We keep your email address, and your name if you gave it. Our newsletter is sent through Mailchimp, so your address is stored on their systems as well as ours. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works immediately.

When you buy a ticket

Tickets are sold through WooCommerce. We collect your name, email address, phone number, and billing address, and we keep a record of what you bought so we can check you in at the door.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number goes straight to Stripe and never touches our website or our servers. We can see that a payment succeeded and the last four digits, and that is all.

You can create an account on our site to see your past orders. If you do, we store the email address and password you chose. Passwords are stored scrambled, so nobody at ECC can read yours.

When you join a waitlist

When an event sells out we offer a waitlist. We ask for your name and email, and optionally your phone number, how many spots you need, and anything you want us to know. We use it to email you if a spot frees up, and to check you in if you come.

We also record the internet address your signup came from. That is only used to stop automated abuse of the form, and it is not used to identify you.

Every waitlist email includes a link to take yourself off the list without having to reply.

At the door

At an event, a volunteer with a phone marks you off an attendee list built from ticket sales and waitlist admissions. That list holds your name and whether you arrived. It is visible only to ECC volunteers running the door, and it is not published anywhere.

Automatically, as you browse

Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include internet addresses and which pages were requested. WordPress sets a small number of cookies to keep you logged in and to remember what is in your shopping cart. Our contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused alternative to CAPTCHA, to tell people from bots.

What the ECC app collects

Our mobile app is a reader for things we already publish on this website. It has no account and no login, and it does not ask who you are.

The app saves a copy of our calls to action, events, and stories on your phone, so it still works when you have no signal. That copy stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. Deleting the app deletes it.

If you turn on notifications, your phone gives us an anonymous delivery token so we can send you an alert when a comment deadline is closing. That token is not tied to your name, your email, or anything else about you. It is the only thing our notification service stores. Turning notifications off in your phone settings stops it.

If you join a waitlist from inside the app, that goes to this website and is handled exactly as described above.

Buying a ticket or anything else from the app opens our normal checkout, so the same terms apply. The app itself has no analytics, collects no advertising identifier, and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Donations

Donations to ECC are handled by the Coast Range Association through their Network for Good page, because they are our fiscal sponsor and the registered charity. When you donate, your information goes to them and is covered by their privacy practices, not ours. We never see your card details.

Who else sees your information

We share the minimum needed to run the organization, and only with companies doing a specific job for us:

  • DreamHost hosts this website.
  • Stripe processes card payments.
  • Mailchimp sends our newsletter.
  • Google delivers our outgoing email.
  • Cloudflare provides the form challenge that keeps out bots.
  • Automattic runs the spam filter on submissions.
  • Coast Range Association receives donations as our fiscal sponsor.
  • Threadspore runs our volunteer portal, if you choose to join it.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone. We would only hand it over if the law required it.

How long we keep it

Order records are kept as long as we need them for our books. Waitlist entries are kept while an event is upcoming and cleared out afterwards. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe. Messages sent through our contact form stay in our inbox until we tidy it. If you want something gone sooner, ask.

What you can ask us to do

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct something wrong, or ask us to delete it. Write to us through the contact form and say what you want. We will do it, and we will not ask you why.

The one exception is a record we are required to keep for accounting, such as a completed ticket sale. We will tell you if that applies.

Children

Our website and app are meant for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. Children are welcome at our events, and when a grown-up buys a family ticket we collect the grown-up’s details, not the child’s. If you believe a child has sent us information, tell us and we will remove it.

Security

Our site is served over an encrypted connection, payment details are handled entirely by Stripe, and access to anything containing your information is limited to the handful of ECC volunteers who need it. We are a small organization and we are honest about that: no website is perfectly secure, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, we will say so in the newsletter rather than quietly editing the page.

Getting in touch

Questions about any of this go to our contact form, and a person will read it.
